The Parent Teachers’ Association is a way all parents and teachers can participate in the life of the school. Parent Associations play an essential role in our school.

Our school’s Parent Association is a good place for parents to find out what is happening in our school. Through involvement in the Parent Association, parents can learn how our school operates and discover a network of people committed to their children's school. The P.T.A serves as an important fundraiser, communicator and at times in the role as problem-solver role for our school. It organizes and supports a number of events throughout the year to raise funds and help develop a sense of community.  Some of the annual events include School Photos, Holiday Show, Staff Appreciation Luncheon, and Carnival. The proceeds are used to support P.S. 243K enrichment programs, buy additional equipment for the school. All P.S. 243K students, teachers and families benefit from the work of the P.T.A.

If you are a parent or guardian of a P.S. 243K child, you are automatically a member!

So please attend the meetings, volunteer to help on an event, and help raise and or contribute money. Every little bit helps. The school benefits enormously from parents volunteer efforts, which can include serving on the P.T.A. board, a subcommittee or the School Leadership Team.  These are great ways to be involved in the life of the school. If you are not sure how your energy, time and talent can best be applied, talk to any of the P.T.A. Executive Board members who can help you get started.  If you have a question or a comment for the P.T.A., you may leave a note in the P.T.A. mailbox located in the school’s main office.

The SLT is the primary vehicle for parents to work with teachers and the principal to establish school priorities, decide how the budget is spent, and evaluate our school’s progress. The Principal, Parent Teacher Association President and UFT Chapter leader or their designees serve on the SLT along with additional parents chosen by the school parent body. Parents have the opportunity to directly influence how the school operates.

The SLT at P.S. 243K meets one to two times a month. The SLT team is responsible for evaluating the   quality of the school’s educational program and its effect on student achievement. The SLT develops the Comprehensive Education Plan (CEP) that sets annual goals for the school in all areas and focuses on developing educational strategies for improvement.

The School Leadership Team is the central team coordinating the work of other teams, subcommittees, and task forces in the school.  The team must keep the school community involved and informed of team discussions and decisions.
